AWARDS and ACCOMPLISHMENTS
2007
• Walter McManus, Jr. presented a check in the amount of $100,000 at the FVIM
“Shangri-La” Gala in February. Walter, Sr., a FVIM Board member who passed away
in October, wanted the money to go to the Clinic when he died and Walter, Jr.
decided to present the check at the annual Gala.
• 10th and 11th editions of the VIM & VIGOR newsletters were distributed
showcasing our new format.
2006

• FVIM held an unveiling of a plaque honoring the Tozzos' for their
generous contribution to pay the building's mortgage.
FVIM “OASIS” Gala held at The Fox Club on January 28, 2006.
• 8th and 9th editions of the VIM & VIGOR newsletters were distributed.
2005
• FVIM “Swing” Gala was held at the Yacht & Country Club on January 25, 2005.
• The 6th and 7th editions of VIM & Vigor were distributed.
• The Hobe Sound Community Chest gave an $18,000 donation.
• Dr. Howard Voss received the NYU Medical School Alumni award.
• VIM Clinical Director, Elizabeth Tsarnas, ARNP, was awarded the American Red
Cross Unsung Hero Award in March.
2004
• Dr. Howard Voss, our Medical Director, received the South Florida Physician
Humanitarian of the Year Award from the Florida Business Healthcare Association.
• The Friends of Volunteers in Medicine Clinic hosted the VIM Gala 2004 “Helping
Others Enjoy Healthy Lives” on January 17, 2004 at the Yacht & Country Club.
• The 4th and 5th editions of VIM & VIGOR were distributed.
• Martin County Board of County Commissioners gave $225,000 to the VIM Clinic.
• The FVIM Board brought two new liaisons to the board as contacts with the
Hispanic and African American communities.
• United Way of Martin County gave $30,000 to the VIM Clinic for three
consecutive years.
• The Helen Thomas Foundation gave another $50,000 to cover the mortgage.
• Dr. Bill & June Tozzo pledged $500,000 to the VIM Clinic. $50,000 per year for
ten years. This pledge will cover the cost of the building.
2003
• The Friends of Volunteers in Medicine Clinic purchased the building for the
VIM Clinic from Martin Memorial Foundation. A donation from the William & Helen
Thomas Foundation provided the down payment.
• The Clinic received $12,000 from the Hobe Sound Community Chest.
• Angie Fening and the Helping Hands held another Charity Ball to benefit VIM.
• The VIM Clinic received a grant from United Way of Martin County.
• Two more editions of VIM & VIGOR were distributed.
